An increase in the average speed of the Ahmedabad-Delhi Rajdhani Express and Ashram Express will reduce travel time by 45 minutes, starting April 1.
The travel time will further reduce, and go below the 12-hour threshold, once the speed of Rajdhani Express is increased from 110 kilometres per hour (kmph) to 130 kmph in the next phase.
With an average speed of about 60 kmph, Rajdhani Express used to take about 13 hours to reach Delhi from Ahmedabad and vice versa. Following phased elimination of railway crossings, officials said it has now been possible to cut the travel time for one of the three premium trains in the country.
Ahmedabad Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Tarun Jain said an approximately 7% increase in the average speed of the train had led to a 45-minute reduction in journey time.
Instead of 5.45 pm, the Rajdhani Express will now leave Ahmedabad station at 6.30 pm in the evening. Similarly, the returning train will reach Ahmedabad from Delhi at 8.45 am instead of 9.30 am.
With the cut in travel time, the Ahmedabad Railway Division has revised timings not only of the Rajdhani, but a total of 24 trains from April 1.
