Expressing shock at an undertrial’s murder inside the Tihar Jail in November last year, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday ordered Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the prison authorities to apprise it on whether an FIR has been registered in the incident as well as the status of the investigation.
Coronavirus Highlights February 24, 2021: India's coronavirus tally surged to 1,10,30,176, while the active caseload fell below the 1.5-lakh mark and is pegged at 1,46,907, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday. Meanwhile, India's daily positivity rate remains below 3 per cent, the ministry said on Tuesday. The death toll due to the novel coronavirus infection stands at 1,56,567 and 1,07,26,702 people have so far been cured and discharged. Since the country saw a sudden spike in Covid-19 cases in the recent past, the worst-hit states are Kerala and Maharashtra. The government said that two variants of Covid-19 were detected in these two states, however, there is no reason to believe presently that they are responsible for the surge in cases in some districts in these two states. One of the two variants has also been detected in Telangana.
Though no FIR or police station was mentioned by the two in the bail petitions, their counsels told the Delhi High Court a police officer in civil dress had visited the house of one of them.

Delhi on Wednesday recorded 200 fresh coronavirus cases including two fatalities, taking the death toll to 10,905, even as the positivity rate rose to 0.36 per cent, authorities said.
