According to a report by PTI, the busiest of roads and markets remained eerily quiet and empty on Sunday as the national capital, burdened by the heavy load of unprecedented number of COVID-19 cases, observed the second day of weekend curfew. The curfew, aimed at breaking the chain of spiralling coronavirus infections, was clamped at 10 pm on April 16 and continued till 5 am on April 19. Now a similar sight is expected to continue this week as the Delhi government has imposed a lockdown for six days starting tonight at 10 pm and which will end at 5 am on April 26. As the country is reeling under the threat of coronavirus, shortage of oxygen has become a big concern. In past few days, Delhi has reported over 20,000 cases. CM Arvind Kejriwal had already informed that there is shortage of beds and oxygen in hospitals. Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia on April 20 informed that in many hospitals in Delhi, medical oxygen is available for 8-10 next hours only. “If more oxygen isn't made available immediately it could affect lives. No action was taken on our request to the Centre to increase Delhi’s quota of oxygen,” said Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
In an alarming situation, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday claimed that some hospitals in Delhi are going to run out of oxygen supply in a few hours. The Delhi CM appealed to the Centre to provide medical oxygen to the national capital.
