    • HC seeks Delhi government`s stand on safe disposal of swabs used for COVID - 19 tests
      The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the counsel for the Delhi government to take instructions on a plea seeking directions to follow stringent measures for the safe disposal of swabs used for Rapid Antigen Testing of COVID-19. A division bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan, after going through the petition and submissions, asked the counsel of the Delhi government to take the instructions and apprise the court about the same and listed the matter for December 3.

    • Delhi, neighbouring cities choke on toxic smog day after Diwali festivities
      Thousands of Indians in North India, especially the national capital region, woke up on Sunday to toxic air following Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. Delhi was blanketed with a thick haze, with the average pollution level in the capital over 9 times what is considered safe by the World Health Organisation.  Revellers on Saturday night defied bans on using firecrackers to celebrate the festival -- imposed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

    • Red light? Then turn engine off, Delhi urges motorists amid heavy pollution
      Choking back exhaust fumes, 22-year-old Rihana Saif stands at a traffic signal in India`s capital New Delhi, holding a sign mounted on a bamboo stick imploring motorists to turn their engines off. The city has been facing one of its worst spells of air pollution in years, caused by a combination of traffic, factories, construction dust and the widespread burning of agricultural waste in neighbouring states. Doctors and environmentalists also say the smog is exacerbating the health effects of a third wave of coronavirus infections.

    • Delhi fears the worst amid smog cloud and coronavirus wave
      A steady stream of patients is coming out of New Delhi's brownish atmosphere for treatment at the Breathe Better clinic, where lung specialist Davinder Kundra is confronting what he calls the "double whammy" of deadly smog and the coronavirus. Kundra is among a growing number of doctors who are worried as the capital's notorious air again hits peak pollution levels while a new pandemic wave is battering hospitals. Every winter pollution season, demand for beds spikes in the world's most polluted capital because of an increase in lung diseases and chronic bronchitis.

    • Delhi sends new name for acting head of Indian mission in Islamabad
      India has sent a new name to Pakistan for the post of acting head of Indian high commission in Islamabad. The name proposed is of ex-director, Pakistan--Suresh at the Ministry of external affairs and will be the Deputy Commissioner of India and overall chargé d'affaires at the mission. While no decision has been taken by Pakistan yet on the acceptance of the name, WION has learnt not much of a problem will come this time.

    • Seven Indians freed in Libya arrive in Delhi
      Seven Indian who were released in Libya after around a month-long captivity arrived in Delhi on Wednesday morning. The Indians were kidnapped in Asshwerif in Libya on September 14. Indian envoy to Tunisia Puneet Roy Kundal played a key role in the entire release process. In fact, while many nationalities have been kidnapped in the past, it is for the first time the release has happened in such a swift manner. New Delhi does not have a working mission in Libya given the current situation and Indian mission in neighbouring Tunisia is dealing with the affairs in the country.

      Senior Afghan politician Ata Mohammad Noor is in Delhi for talks with the Indian leadership. CEO of Jamiat Party Ata Noor is India's close ally in Afghanistan and has in the past served as the governor of northern Balkh province in Afghanistan. In 2016, he had personally taken up arms to repel a terrorist attack on the Indian consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif and protected it. During the Taliban rein in the country in 1990s, Noor had served as a commander in Ahmad Shah Massoud's Nothern front.

    • In Delhi, deputy US secretary of state pitches for Pax Indo - Pacifica
      Deputy US Secretary of State Stephen Biegun, who is on India visit, has pitched for "vision of Pax Indo-Pacifica", describing it as a "region at peace, protected and made prosperous in equal measure by those who comprise the Indo-Pacific". He was speaking at India-US forum in New Delhi, along with India's foreign secretary Harsh Shringla.

    • Delhi - NCR fears air pollution as farmers continue stubble burning
      The farmers of Punjab and Haryana have started their annual exercise of burning crop stubble to prepare the fields for rabi (winter) crops and due to this practice of large area the air quality Delhi -NCR has started deteriorating. The national capital's air quality was recorded in the poor category Thursday morning and it is likely to deteriorate further due to unfavourable meteorological conditions and spike in farm fires. The city recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 201 at 9 am, which falls in the poor category.

    • Delhi vehicles without HSRP and colour - coded stickers to be penalised soon
      Vehicles in Delhi without High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and colour-coded stcikers will be penalised soon. According to a report by news agency Press Trust of India, there are almost 30 lakh vehicles that will require HSRP and stickers. Earlier, the Delhi government had asked owners of vehicles registered before April 2019 to affix them with High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and colour-coded stickers, saying a drive will be launched "soon" to check for the violation of the directive.
    • Delhi loses cleaner lockdown air as farmers burn crop waste
      India's longest spell of clean air on record came to an end in September when New Delhi, the world's most polluted capital city, recorded a significant deterioration in air quality, partly due to crop waste burning by farmers. Up until this month, New Delhi and its satellite cities, which last year accounted for half of the dozen most-polluted cities worldwide, had enjoyed respite due to the strict nationwide lockdown to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

    • HC defers Delhi govt`s plea against interim stay on reservation of ICU beds in private hospitals
      A division bench of the Delhi High Court on Friday deferred to September 28 hearing on a petition filed by the Delhi government challenging a single-judge bench order imposing an interim stay on the reservation of 80 per cent ICU beds in a group of top private hospitals in the national capital exclusively for COVID-19 patients. The division bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan listed the matter for further hearing on September 28.

      The 2020 International Emmys announced its list of nominees for this year and it’s a good run for hit show ‘Made In Heaven’ as the lead actor Arjun Mathur has bagged a nod in the Best Actor category. ‘Four More Shot’s got a nod in the Best Comedy series category while ‘Delhi Crime’ is in Best Drama Series category.

    • Jaishankar, NSA Doval at Saudi National Day in Delhi; Saudi envoy calls India `important strategic partner`
      In a rare development, both India's external affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were present at the Saudi National Day celebrations in Delhi. The development shows the growing closeness between India and Saudi Arabia. The last time India's EAM was present at National Day celebration of any country was in 2018 when the then external affairs minister late Sushma Swaraj was the chief guest at Russian National Day at the Russian embassy in Delhi.

    • Delhi conducting maximum COVID - 19 tests per day per million on earth: CM Kejriwal
      Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that maximum COVID-19 tests per day per million population are being conducted in the national capital when compared to the rest of the world. Kejriwal said that 21 lakhs people in Delhi have been tested for COVID-19 so far, equals to 11 per cent of the total population of the city.

    • IIT - Delhi issues clarification after ad for dog handler kicks up row
      A faux pas in a job advertisement for the position of a dog handler posted by the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi created quite a buzz on social media, prompting the institute to issue a clarification and cancel the recruitment. On August 26, IIT-Delhi had sought applications for the post of a dog handler, and the notice stated that the eligibility criteria was "B.A/B.Sc/B.Com/B.Tech or any equivalent undergraduate degree". This led to a social media storm.

    • Amid fresh tension, Ladakh LG meets MOS Home in New Delhi
      The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur met Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy, amidst fresh tension between the Indian Army and China's PLA in eastern Ladakh. Mathur who reached New Delhi arrived at the north block but didn’t disclose anything. According to sources, the prevailing situation along the Line of Actual control was discussed between the LG and MOS home. 
    • `Life - changing journey`: New bus trip will take you from Delhi to London in 70 days
      Adventures Overland, an expedition company, has introduced a modified luxury bus that will carry 20 passengers from Delhi to London. This bus will cross 18 countries over 70 days. During the journey, passengers will be allowed to "hop off" and explore different locations on the way.  The expedition company was introduced by entrepreneurs Tushar Agarwal and Sanjay Madan. The idea of such a bus trip came from a solo drive from London to Delhi that Tushar Agarwal did in 2010. "It is an absolutely fantastic journey," Tushar told CNN Travel.

    • Moscow hopes agreement on IGLA missile, New Delhi to manufacture spare parts of Russian equipment
      Continuing the close defence partnership, Moscow has hoped India will soon sign agreement on IGLA-S anti air missile, while New Delhi has announced it will soon produce spare parts of the Russian defence equipment under Atmanirbhar Bharat. India has signed an intergovernmental agreement with Russia to the manufacturing of spare parts of Russian equipment supplied to India. Indian defence forces have a substantial component of Russian military hardware, some estimates bill it around 70 per cent.

    • New Delhi, Kabul increase engagement as Afghan envoy says share values with India
      Even as the Afghan Peace process is underway, India and Afghanistan have been engaging with each other. Afghan Foreign minister Mohammed Haneef Atmar spoke to India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and discussed a number of issues. Atmar in a tweet later said, "It was a pleasure to discuss a range of issues of mutual interest. We are profoundly grateful for your continued economic cooperation and unwavering political support for peace and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan."
