    • Man abducts cop near Delhi when asked for car documents
      A 29-year-old man in Greater Noida near New Delhi has been arrested for allegedly abducting on-duty traffic policeman. The policeman had stopped the car to check documents. It was suspected that the car had been stolen and the accused the cop to get inside to check the documents. But once the police official sat in the car, the accused started the vehicle and took the cop to over 10-km-long drive before dumping him near a police post, said officials.

    • Yamuna river in India`s national capital Delhi littered with waste despite curbs
      Despite the restrictions imposed by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) on the immersion of Durga idols and other religious material at public places, the Yamuna ghat at ITO, Delhi, was littered with waste on Saturday morning. Speaking to ANI, Pradeep Kumar, a resident of the city, said that the people of the country should give primacy to cleanliness while celebrating festivals.

    • Hundreds of passengers from UK sent to 10 - day quarantine at New Delhi airport
      About 700 passengers travelling from UK to New Delhi were sent to 10-day mandatory quarantine after landing at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday. The passengers were sent to quarantine post RT-PCR test at the airport. The step to send passengers to quarantine has been taken in accordance with Indian Government's stance of 'reciprocal measures' for UK nationals.

    • Delhi schools to mark unvaccinated teachers on `leave` after October 15
      India's capital city has decided that all unvaccinated staff members will be marked as 'on leave' from October 15. The Delhi government has declared that if any teaching and non-teaching staff member is not vaccinated till October 15, they will not be allowed to return to school till they are fully vaccinated. To top it, their absence from the school campus will be marked as a leave.

    • 41% households in Delhi report flu - like symptoms: Survey
      As many as 41 per cent of surveyed Delhi households say that they have one or more members who are currently down with flu-like symptoms. The findings of the survey by Local Circles also indicate that 22 per cent of Delhi households are fully impacted with it, which means all members are having such symptoms while 19 per cent have only 1 member so far and it is likely that more members may develop symptoms in the days to come.

    • Cinemas in Delhi prepare to reopen with 50 pc capacity
      Amid declining COVID-19 cases in the national capital, cinema halls across the city resumed business as they prepare to open with 50 per cent seating capacity. Halls were carefully sanitised and UV lights were installed in several theatres. "Expecting to open by Friday. Producers are waiting to release their movies here because `big screen is big screen`," said Delite Cinema Manager while speaking to ANI.

      As the world prepares itself against the new and emerging Delta Plus strain of the coronavirus, India has reported a new type of virus in people who have already suffered COVID-19. Delhi’s Ganga Ram Hospital has reported five cases of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) in Covid patients, the hospital reported in a written statement.

    • Former Jammu and Kashmir governor Jagmohan passes away in Delhi
      Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Jagmohan Malhotra passed away at the age of 94 after a brief illness.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi consoled the death of the veteran leader and said his demise is a monumental loss for our nation. Taking to his Twitter handle this morning, PM Modi said, "Jagmohan Ji’s demise is a monumental loss for our nation. He was an exemplary administrator & a renowned scholar. He always worked towards the betterment of India. His ministerial tenure was marked by innovative policymaking. Condolences to his family & admirers."

    • Hidden air pollutants rising in Indian cities like Delhi and Kanpur, study finds
      A new study sheds light on the prevalence of pollutants in Indian cities. According to the British study published in the journal called “Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics”, hidden air pollutants are increasing in Indian cities. These pollutants include fine particles known as PM2.5 along with nitrogen dioxide which are both hazardous to health. Scientists used data from satellites to scan the skies of cities everyday. They found that air pollutants are rapidly spreading in Indian cities like Kanpur and Delhi.

      Steve Smith is one of the standouts amongst other batsmen in the world. The Aussie player has won the Cricket World Cup once, yet has never been a part of an IPL-winning team.  This year, Smith procured an agreement from the Delhi Capitals. The former Aussie skipper made his introduction for the franchise on April 18 against the Punjab Kings, and he has scored 42 runs in two innings.  The right-hand batsman is eager to win his first IPL trophy this year.     • India, Pakistan meeting on Indus river concludes, New Delhi justifies developing hydropower projects in J&K
      The two-day meeting between India and Pakistan wrapped up on Wednesday, in which New Delhi justified its stand on the two hydropower projects in Jammu and Kashmir.  Pakistan raised objections to the designs of Pakal Dul and Lower Kalnai hydropower projects.  It also asked for more information on hydropower projects in Ladakh approved by India after the revocation of special provisions of Article 370 which gave special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, sources told news agency PTI.
