Pre monsoon rains may commence over northern parts of Punjab and Haryana as well as foothills of Uttar Pradesh on June 15. Thereafter, intensity of rain will increase and will cover most parts of Punjab, Haryana, and many parts of West Uttar Pradesh. Delhi and North Rajasthan may also receive scattered rain between June 16 and 20.

Conditions are not favourable for occurrence of these weather activities until first half of April. Therefore, we do not expect any significant relief from ongoing hot weather conditions over Northwest India until April 15. First half of April may also make some records for maximum and minimum temperatures.

An active western disturbance over the hills has induced a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and Haryana, reaching outskirts of Delhi. However, the weather system is not finding much support for the plains in the upper levels, so essential to have any strong and fierce activity.

Cold blast from the northern plains has travelled deep south to reach Madhya Maharashtra. Twin cities of Pune and Nashik literally reeling under cold wave conditions. Close on heels of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Gujarat, which became colder than Delhi, a day prior, the automobile hub Pune and pilgrimage city Nashik chased the record together.

The lowest minimum temperature during 1st fortnight of January was recorded in 2021 and was followed by 2020. Coincidentally, 01stJan has been the coldest in fairly large number of cases. Year 2016 was an exception when the lowest minimum dropped to 6.6°C, that too on 01st Jan.

After the cessation of rains, invariably Delhi witnesses thick fog around this time of the year. However, the dense fog disrupting road, rail and air traffic has remained conspicuously evasive this season so far. Patchy and moderate fog is quite likely with limited spread and intensity.

Delhi's Safdarjung recorded lowest temperature of this season so far. The minimum temperature dipped to 8.4°C, about 1°C below the normal. Meteorological office at Lodhi Road was the lowest in the region at 8.3°C. The airport observatory at Palam remained in double digit and registered 10.9°C, again the lowest of this season.

At present, the minimum temperature in Delhi is 2 degree above normal but it may be below normal in next 3 or 4 days. Cold wave may also prevail in 1-2 districts of Haryana and North Rajasthan for example Hisar, Churu, Pilani, Sikar and Narnaul etc.

Reason for the commencement of monsoon rains over Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Odisha and adjoining areas which will be moved in Northwest direction towards north Madhya Pradesh. Western end of axis of monsoon trough may also move in north.

Along with Delhi adjoining state of Haryana witnessed the heavy downpour on numerous occasions leading to surplus rain. On the other hand, the weather systems which impacted Delhi and Haryana failed to reach Punjab and Punjab remained rain deficient.

Delhi Rains: Winds will change all across the Indo Gangetic Plains and even Delhi NCR will start to observe easterlies blowing over the region. Under the influence of change in air mass and change in winds and ultimately the shift of Low-Pressure area closer to Rajasthan region, good rains are expected over Delhi and NCR around September 9.

Delhi Rains: Multiple weather parameters may give on and off good rain until tomorrow over Delhi NCR. There may be some decrease in rain intensity on July 29. Rain is expected to again pick up pace by July 30 and expected to continue with varying intensity until august 2-3.

The national capital of Delhi recorded 1st day maximum of 40°C this month yesterday. Base observatory Safdarjung measured 40.3°C which is just normal at this time of the year. Rain and thunderstorms are likely over the weekend which is likely to spill over even to the next week.

Delhi Rains: Delhi and adjoining parts of NCR are likely to experience light to moderate showers between May 31 and June 2. This spell could be intense on June 1 and recede to be mild on June 2. The day temperatures will take a dip during this period and hover around 37-38 degrees Celsius.

Cyclone Tauktae effect is reaching Delhi and widespread showers, heavy at times are expected over many parts of the capital. Heavy showers are expected over and around Delhi accompanied with strong winds and thunderstorms. Weather activity will commence in the evening and possibly last for about 12 hours.

Pre-monsoon activity will continue and increase its span in the next 24 hours. This may go a little subdued in the subsequent 24 hours, on 03rd and 04th May. Substantial rise is expected between 05th and 08th May covering most parts of Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, and Delhi.

Delhi is expected to receive relief showers over most parts. This also will set the pace for more pre-monsoon showers between 02nd and 05th May. Temperature is expected to drop by 5-6 degrees to hover around mid 30's.

Base observatory of Delhi at Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 33.8 degrees yesterday, the lowest of this month so far. The meteorological office at Lodhi Road was still a shade lower at 33.4 degrees. These mercury levels are 4-5 degrees below the normal over most parts of the national capital Delhi.

Mercury level will stay on track and remain above normal by 4°C today also. However it may miss the mark of 40°C by a whisker and stay above 39°C at base record station Safdarjung. Some areas in the national capital will record temperature in excess of 40°C today as well. Heat wave may abate from few parts today and recede from complete region tomorrow.

Delhi hit the 1st hat trick of 40°C for this season. Base observatory at Safdarjung recorded maximum temperature in excess of 40°C on 13th April, 14th April and 15th April. There was an incremental raise on these days for Delhi and the mercury scaled from 40.2°C on 13th April to 40.3°C the next day and further to 40.5°C yesterday.

Delhi will be on a rising spree and soon touch 40 degrees before the next weekend. The first 10 days of April have generally registered above normal temperatures for Delhi with the highest around 39 degrees. Rain and thundershowers are expected over Delhi NCR in a wider area on 16th April and its remnant may even last till the next day on 17th April.

March 29 on Holi eve, Delhi recorded the second-highest temperature in March, making the hottest Holi ever for Delhi. The highest record for maximum temperature in Delhi is 40.6 degrees recorded on March 31st in 1945. Many parts of Delhi NCR recorded much higher temperature.

Base observatory of Delhi, Safdarjung, recorded a maximum temperature of 40.1°C, 8°C above the normal. This mercury level in Delhi is the highest for March in the last 75 years and misses by a whisker that record of 40.6°C measured on 31st March 1945.

The national capital of Delhi will see a steady rise in day temperature and may culminate at 38°C on 'Holi', 29th March 2021. The surge in day temperature in Delhi will nearly be 2°C per day for the next 3 days to reach 38°C on the day of the colourful festival.

The national capital of Delhi will turn hot and hotter in the remaining days of March. Mercury in Delhi may climb to reach 38°C on 29th and 30th March. This is going to be the hottest phase of this month as the earlier readings barely managed to cross 35°C on 11th Mar (35.2°C), 18th Mar (35.3°C) and 21st Mar (35.2°C).
