    • Railway to restore Sarbat Da Bhala train next week The Tribune India | Ludhiana NYOOOZ
      Ludhiana August 20With easing of Covid-19 restrictions and rail traffic fast returning to normal the Northern Railway authorities have announced restoration of New Delhi-Lohian Khas Sarbat Da Bhala Express and New Delhi-Ludhiana-Moga Intercity Express trains from August 25 and 27 respectively. According to Railway officials New Delhi-Ludhiana-Moga Shatabdi Express would now run in its new avatar – 04081/82 New Delhi-Ludhiana-Moga Intercity Express twice a week (Monday and Friday) from August 27. The 04027/28 New Delhi-Ludhiana-Lohian Khas Sarbat Da Bhala Extress train would also be back on tracks on five days of the week (except Monday Friday) from August 25. The train 04027 would depart from New Delhi at 7 am and reach Lohan Khas at 2.50 pm. On its return journey the train would leave Lohian Khas at 3.35 pm and arrive in New Delhi at 11.35 pm.—OC

      Tribune News ServiceChandigarh August 18A 28-year-old Delhi resident has been arrested by the crime branch of the UT police with 110-gm heroin. He was arrested from Sector 52. The police said Akshay was supplying drugs in the city for the past two months. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him at the Sector 36 police station. The suspect was produced in a court today which sent him to one-day police remand.

Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Home Minister Amit Shah and other members of the Union Council of Ministers Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu was also present on the occasion. Sources said the Council of Ministers would likely meet daily in the evening between August 10 and 12 ahead of the Independence Day this year. Police build makeshift wall outside fort The Delhi Police have erected a wall of shipping containers at the main gate of Red Fort ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the meetings and chalk out a broad plan for the I-Day and the policy direction the country would take from there on.

      New Delhi June 20Further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of Delhi Rajasthan west Uttar Pradesh Haryana Chandigarh and Punjab is likely to be slow. India Meteorological Department (IMD) made the forecast on Sunday based on large-scale features showing no favourable condition. The wind pattern by the numerical models also do not indicate any favourable condition for sustained rainfall over the region during the forecast period the IMD said. Moderate to severe thunderstorms accompanied by frequent cloud to ground lightning is very likely over east Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during next 24 hours the IMD further said.

The MC is visiting different processing plants to finalise the technology for its own processing plant in Sector 25. As per the IIT-Roorkee report the existing plant can at best handle 60 to 65 TPD (tonne per day) waste. Datt said in the last 40 years nearly 90 per cent people in the CHB houses made additions/alterations to their dwelling units. “To let it be is to encourage chaos and to punish almost 4 lakh people for this with demolition/cancellation will be a calamity” he said adding that the issue can be sorted out if “the 1999 Delhi Solution – a comprehensive and fully practical solution for a messy situation – is adopted” in Chandigarh. Datt said the Delhi Solution was a four-pronged resolution which suggests concession in covered area should be given and that much additional coverage should be duly regularised. The solution also highlights that one-time usage charge should be taken for already existing excess projections out of the plot area but without regularising such projections.

      New Delhi June 6Responding to the Opposition's charges against the Central Vista project the Centre has claimed that no healthcare funds were diverted for it. In a release the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs debunked the charge that Rs 20000 crore was being spent on the project this year amid the pandemic. The ministry said the plan was envisaged in 2019 many months before the outbreak. The ministry said none of the heritage buildings — India Gate Parliament North & South Blocks National Archives or any other — would be demolished.

      Our CorrespondentHoshiarpur June 1Farm leader Lakhwinder Singh Lakhi who had been constantly protesting against the three agri laws at Sutehri died at a hospital in Jalandhar. Lakkhi had fallen ill while sitting on a dharna a few days ago. Sangha said his family admitted him to a hospital in Jalandhar on May 23 where he breathed his last on May 31. “Due to the stubbornness of the Central Government many farmers are getting martyred. We will return from the borders of Delhi only after getting our demands fulfilled” said Sangha.

      Tribune News ServiceNew Delhi May 9The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) today said its Covid care facility at the Rakab Ganj Gurdwara would open tomorrow and have 400 beds to mark the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur. The facility will be equipped with oxygen concentrators and also have its own ambulances. “The donations made by the 'sangat' (Sikh community) are sufficient” said DSGMC president Manjinder Singh Sirsa at a press conference. For emergency and ICU care services the facility will be attached to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital. Among several donors the DSGMC boss thanked Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan for giving an aid of Rs 2 crore for setting up the facility.

      New Delhi April 27While the US Government is finalising a mega assistance package for India the White House has disapproved of the Indian Government's directive to Twitter and other social media platforms to take down posts critical of its handling of the current medical crisis. “That certainly wouldn't be aligned with our view of freedom of speech around the world” said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki. But for that disagreement the US Government is “working nonstop” to urgently deliver supplies most needed within India said US State Department spokesperson Ned Price. Price however found himself in a spot when asked why did it take the US so long to offer assistance. Asked whether it was because China had offered help or because of the media stories about India Price said the US had offered $19 million in assistance (Rs 140 crore) from the earliest days of this pandemic.

      Urging cooperation of locals the CM said the lockdown had become necessary to prevent a situation where people started dying on the roads or in hospital corridors. Essential supply establishments and services will be exempt from curfew on production of valid I cards. Persons coming or going to rail stations airports or bus stations will be allowed on production of valid tickets. There will also be no restriction on inter-state movement of essential goods and no separate e-pass would be required for the same. The curfew order said religious places will be allowed to open but no visitors will be allowed.

      New Delhi April 8Ahead of another round of high-level military talks with China India on Thursday said it would like to see disengagement at remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh that could lead to restoration of peace and tranquillity along the frontier. The 11th round of Corps Commander talks is scheduled to start at 10.30 am on Friday at the Chushul border point on the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh sources in the security establishment said. Meanwhile China said India's proposal for restoration of status quo of April 2020 in eastern Ladakh could be discussed at the meeting.
